Appomattox County High School Raiders drum majors Stephen Zydgbloski, Ethan Hall and Ana Myers pose with the Grand Champion trophy at the 2019 Brick Capital Classic.

New uniforms for the Appomattox County High School marching band, winners of the 2017 and 2019 Grand Champion band competition trophy, was the dominant discussion at Thursday’s meeting of the Appomattox County School Board.

The floor was open for public comments on any budget-related topic, and Appomattox resident John Rieger, who said he has worked with the Raider Marching Band for the past six years, made a plea to the school board to purchase new uniforms because their current ones are well past their expiry date.

“I request that the board give favorable consideration to purchasing new marching band uniforms to help these kids look like Grand Champions, to help them look like the best marching band in Appomattox County,” Rieger said.
