Bobby Waddell resigns as Appomattox County School Board member and chairman

On November 19, the Appomattox County School Board accepted the resignation of Mr. Bobby K. Waddell effective Nov. 20. Mr. Waddell has faithfully served on the Appomattox County School Board for 15 years and has served as chairman of the board since 2012.

In an announcement to the staff, division superintendent, Dr. Annette Bennett said of Mr. Waddell, A dedicated public servant, Mr. Waddell has been an enthusiastic advocate for our schools, students, staff, and community. His experience as a former teacher and administrator in Appomattox and Prince Edward counties afforded our school division a vast advantage. As chairman, he has been a steady guide and wise advisor to the other board members and numerous superintendents.  He will be sorely missed on the board.

On Dec. 17, the school board will be appointing a citizen to serve as an interim board member until an election can be held to fill this vacancy. The board voted to hold a public hearing on December 3, 2020 to receive nominations of interested individuals. Nominees must be qualified voters in the Falling River District of Appomattox. Only those individuals considered during the public hearing are eligible for appointment.

ACPS extends our utmost appreciation to Mr. Waddell for his long-standing dedication to our schools and wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
