In what was one of the most entertaining games in recent memory of the Appomattox Raiders boys soccer program, the Raiders lost a 1-0 clash last Friday to the Chatham Cavaliers at Bragg Stadium.
The narrow defeat landed the Raiders in second place in the final Dogwood District standings at 8-2, behind champion Nelson County at 9-1. The Governors had defeated the Raiders 2-1 on May 12.
Appomattox finished the regular season with an overall record of 11-4-1. Chatham was third in district standings at 5-3-2.
The fast and physical matchup between the Raiders and Cavaliers appeared to be headed for overtime until T.J. Bradley broke through the Raider defense after receiving a short pass and fired the ball from the right side of the goal box into the left side of the net with five minutes remaining in the game.
Appomattox hosts the James River Knights (11-5-1) in a Region 2C quarterfinal game tonight at 6 p.m.
