On Friday, the undefeated Appomattox Raiders hosted the winless Altavista Colonels in a varsity baseball game and came away with a 9-0 win, scoring seven of their runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Altavista gave up two runs to Appomattox in the bottom of the first. Trey Shrock led off with a single and stolen base, later to score on a fielder’s choice on a ground ball out by Alex Caruso. Nate Dillon, who walked, also scored on a ground ball by Ethan Walton that was overthrow by the Colonels on a play to first base. The error was one of five committed by Altavista.
The Colonels threatened to score in the top of the third inning when Nehki Robinson drew a walk and Jordan Pippin singled to left field but were unable to drive in a run off starting pitcher Kyle Davis.
