Appomattox Raiders pitcher Courtney Layne tossed a no-hitter with 19 strikeouts, enabling her team to come away from a road trip to Dan River with a 1-0 win over the Wildcats, preserving their perfect 2022 record of 8-0 (3-0 in the Dogwood District).

Layne also batted in the only run for Appomattox with a first-inning double that drove in Kenadee McCullough from first base. McCullough had reached base on a walk.

Macee Hargis walked to lead off the third inning but was thrown out at second base on a fielder’s choice grounder by Layne. Haleigh Tweedy, pinch running for Layne, was then thrown out at second on a stolen base attempt.
