Raiders baseball overcomes big challenge from Hawks

The Appomattox Raiders baseball team hasn’t lost a game so far in the 2022 season but Friday’s home matchup with the Gretna Hawks was a close call. The Raiders found themselves down 3-1 to the Hawks and had to come from behind to squeak out a 4-3 win.

Gretna entered the game with a 3-9 record but put pressure on Appomattox early with a run in the top of the first inning.

Appomattox tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second when Kyle Davis hit a deep sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Collin Slagle to tag up and score from third base. Slagle had reached base on a throwing error by Hawks second baseman Phillip Dews.
