The 2022-23 season came to and end for the Appomattox Raiders girls basketball team on Monday, Feb. 20, with a 50-20 loss at Glenvar in a VHSL Region 2C quarterfinal playoff game.

The Raiders finish the season with an 11-13 overall record under first-year head coach Emily Hill, a vast improvement over last year’s 3-13 mark.

Hill commented on the progress and positive mentality the team developed over the course of the season and hopes to build upon that momentum going forward.

“This season our word was ‘Together,’ she said. “Not just something to say breaking down the huddle, but something the girls chose to live out each day, even in the face of adversity. Our girls chose to be ‘win together, lose together’ teammates and went much further than many expected.

“Together we’re building a program, shifting a culture, prioritizing ‘we’ over ‘me and rallying together no matter what.”
