AYS ‘BOOYAH’ awards given in honor of late Lee Scruggs

Appomattox Youth Sports (AYS) awarded its first “BOOYAH” award in honor of the late Lee Scruggs, a longtime supporter of AYS who served as its president and passed away on Aug. 1 at age 52. Scruggs also served as Commissioner of AYS Baseball and Basketball.

According to a post on the AYS Facebook page, the award “went to a child who showed great sportsmanship, was coachable, who was just having fun and reminded us that Appomattox Youth Sports at the end of the day is about THE KIDS! This award will be handed out at the end of each season to 1 player from each sport. The nomination is done by the commissioner of the sport.”

BOOYAH award winners were: Colton Jones (AYS Baseball), Hunter Curtis (AYS Football) and Kenzlee Elliott (AYS Cheer). The AYS Softball award will be presented in December.
