After nearly 34 years in business, Appomattox Farm and Home closed its doors on Friday, Dec. 1. Located on Confederate Boulevard, owner Timothy Tolley served the public with automobile and farm tractor tires along with lawn and garden equipment.
In April 1990, Tolley and his father, O.H. “Sonny” Tolley, Jr., purchased the building, which was formerly occupied by Appomattox Truck and Tractor. The building has existed since the early 1950s.
Tolley took over operations of the new business while his father continued to work in his own business ventures in trucking, fertilizer and fuel oil before making a switch to selling real estate up until three years ago.
When Appomattox Farm and Home first opened, it was a John Deere consumer products dealer for its first 19 years while also servicing and repairing tractor tires.
