The following case was decided Thursday in Appomattox County Circuit Court with Judge S. Anderson Nelson presiding.
Isaiah Garland, 21, of Concord, pleaded guilty to felony charges of breaking and entering, grand larceny and possession of burglary tools.
Garland will serve one year and six months of incarceration with another eight years and six months suspended.
Evidence summarized in court shows that on Feb. 4, Garland illegally entered an Appomattox County home on County Line Road through a kitchen window. The home was ransacked, and missing were two handguns, a laptop computer, and an Xbox game console. Found next to the gun box was a screwdriver.
Upon returning home, the residents found that the toilet had been defecated in but not flushed. Garland told an investigator that the toilet didn’t flush because the water was turned off.
Garland confessed to the crime when investigators showed up at his residence with a search warrant.
Conditions of the suspended sentence upon release are 10 years good behavior, three years supervised probation, restitution of $600, and no contact with the victims and their property.
