Michael Glazer, the President and CEO of Houston-based Stage Stores, released an official statement Sunday stating that the company is voluntarily filing Chapter 11 bankruptcy after failing to secure financing to continue operations as an independent business.
The more than 100-year-old company has owned a number of store brands such as Peebles, Goody's and Bealls, but has recently been transitioning to the off-brand business model under the name Gordmans.
Gordmans in Appomattox opened for business in March of this year. The Times Virginian is waiting for a reply from a public relations manager at Stage Stores in regard to the Appomattox location. Updates will be provided when made available.
