A tractor-trailer crushed the rear of a pickup truck around 2:45 p.m. today on U.S. Route 460 West between Evergreen and the Town of Appomattox, injuring two people.

According to the Virginia State Police trooper who responded to the scene, it appeared that the tractor-trailer struck the rear of the Ford F-150 pickup truck, sending the pickup truck into the right hand shoulder of Route 460.

There was extensive damage to the pickup truck, and the driver and passenger were transported to a hospital. One was flown to a hospital in Roanoke while the other was taken to Lynchburg.

The extent of injuries is unknown at this time.

There were no injuries to the driver of the Boxley tractor-trailer.

At this time, there are no charges, as the incident is still under investigation.

Debris from the pickup truck was sprawled across the grass and road on the 13500 block of Richmond Highway (U.S. Route 460), as Virginia Department of Transportation cleared the driveway and provided traffic control.

Also responding were the Appomattox County Rescue Squad, Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department, and Appomattox County Sheriff’s Office.
