Two senior Raider softball players discuss past, present, future

After earning a trip to the VHSL (Virginia High School League) Class 2 State Softball Tournament in 2018, and falling a game short of repeating the feat in 2019, the 2020 Appomattox Raiders softball team — which features six seniors — hoped to return for one last shot at the state crown.

Unfortunately, fate had other plans.

As a result of the worldwide COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic and subsequent measures by Gov. Ralph Northam that closed schools and imposed limits on public gatherings, the VHSL made its final decision last week to cancel all spring sporting events in 2020.

Two of those six seniors — Hannah Marcum and Leah Caldwell — volunteered to do an interview with the Times Virginian at the Appomattox County High School softball field to reflect on their past, the cancellation of the season, their future, and a few light-hearted “personal favorite” questions.
