Charles Conrad wins three VPA awards

Charles Conrad of the Times Virginian won three Virginia Press Association Awards recently. He won third place in the sports news photo category for this photo of the Appomattox Darlings Dixie All-Star Softball team winning the Virginia Darlings Dixie All-Star State Championship on July 16, 2019, in Charlotte Court House. Conrad also won first place in the headline writing category, which included Conrad's article: "Oh My Darlings! Clutch hit and slide sends Appomattox to ‘Bama." In addition, Conrad won third place in the general makeup category for the newspaper, along with C.E. Adams and Lizbeth Nauta for the Feb. 20, March 27 and April 17 Times Virginian 2019 issues.
