During the Aug. 27 workshop meeting, Appomattox Town Council discussed the progress of the Church Street waterline project and the problem with tractor-trailers driving through town and at the site of waterline construction, referencing a recent tractor-trailer accident that reportedly damaged equipment.
Town Council member Nathan Simpson said he’s received complaints from residents who wonder when they project will be completed.
Interim Town Manager Rob Fowler said he’s received complaints about dust in the project area and indicated the project is estimated to be about 80% complete.
“They had the equipment and the material to pave, temporarily, to address the dust, but VDOT wouldn’t let them continue the detour because we had the accident, which makes no sense because you already have the majority of the road blocked. We could’ve had that all done in a matter of hours, not to mention the waste of material…”
“Once the pavement is done and the street is swept, they are gonna come back and do the businesses again with the cleaning all the dust off the sidewalk, canopies, and that type of thing,” Fowler added.
