The good news that the Appomattox County Raiders Marching Band had been waiting for finally arrived Thursday evening when the Appomattox County School Board approved new uniforms for the 2020 season.
Band Director Bryan Allgood had made a compelling case for new uniforms — to replace the current 14-year-old models — was made at the Nov. 14 school board meeting.
During Allgood’s public speech at that meeting, he cited various uniform deficiencies including faulty seams, zippers and hat plumes among reasons why replacements are necessary for the uniforms that were made for a maximum life of eight years.
The matter of new marching band uniforms has been on the table in recent years. But approval was all a matter if timing in regard to the finances involved, according to Appomattox County Public Schools Superintendent Annette Bennett.
