Testimony was heard today at Appomattox County Circuit Court in the opening day of the jury trial for Enrico Andre Moss, who is charged in connection with the Oct. 20, 2020 homicide of Bedford County resident Carlos L. Rose, aged 45. The case will resume Thursday morning at 9 a.m.
Rose's charred remains were discovered Oct. 21, 2020 in a 2002 GMC Yukon that was set ablaze the night before in the Buckingham-Appomattox State Forest of Appomattox County. Rose's corpse was later identified through DNA testing. It was determined that he had died of gunshot wounds at the hands of two other suspects in the case at another location prior to the vehicle being set on fire.
Moss, one of five defendants in the case, is charged with first degree murder, two counts each of abduction to extort money, arson of personal property and concealing a dead body, and one count of destruction of property.
Testifying today on behalf of the Commonwealth were co-defendant Artenna Horsley-Robey, two Virginia State Police special agents, a member of the Appomattox County Sheriff's Office, Western Virginia Assistant Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Amy Thorpe, and the widow of Carlos L. Rose.
Several more witnesses are scheduled to testify Thursday before the jury goes into deliberations.
Prosecutors in the case are Appomattox County Commonwealth's Attorney Les Fleet and Appomattox County Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Kia Scott. Representing Moss is attorney Jason Anthony of Richmond.
