Press release from the Appomattox County Sheriff's Office:
Pursuant to an on-going law enforcement investigation, Appomattox County Sheriff's Office deputies attempted to stop a wanted individual in the 6000 block of Richmond Highway at approximately midnight on April 1.
The driver refused to stop and led deputies on a 15-minute chase through the area. The pursuit ended in a motor vehicle accident in the Town of Appomattox near the intersection of Church Street and Lee Grant Avenue.
The suspect, Carl Tyler Bane, 28, of Madison Heights, was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Amherst County. Bane was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
This investigation is ongoing. Additional charges are pending. Anyone with any information concerning this individual is encouraged to call investigators at 434-352-8241.
This was the fourth high speed pursuit this week for the Appomattox County Sheriff's Office. In three of these incidents, illegally possessed firearms were recovered.
The public is reminded that fleeing from law enforcement is a separate criminal offense that can be charged as a felony. Drivers that run from law enforcement put themselves, the public, and the law enforcement officers in unnecessary danger and will be charged and punished accordingly.
