Unbeaten Appomattox baseball team downs Nelson County

The still-unbeaten Appomattox Raiders varsity baseball team downed Nelson County this evening by a score of 10-0. The game was concluded after the top of the fifth inning due to the Mercy Rule.

Trey Shrock led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run over the left-center field wall to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. From there, the Raiders scored seven more runs in the first and second innings to go up 8-0.

Today's game was supposed to be played at Nelson County but a lack of lighting at Nelson County and transportation issues at Appomattox County necessitated the switch in venues. The teams will play again at Nelson County on May 11.

The win capped off a tremendous week for the 6-0 Raiders. On Monday they trounced Rustburg 20-2 at home, and defeated Chatham 6-1 in a road game Wednesday.

Appomattox is scheduled to play at Randolph-Henry on Monday.
