Layne tosses perfect game in 20-0 win at Chatham

Tonight's varsity softball game between Appomattox County and Nelson County was canceled because of an undisclosed players issue with Nelson County, as Appomattox County High School Athletic Director Chris Dodge announced earlier. However, the Appomattox Raiders softball team heads into spring break undefeated at 5-0.

The Raiders' latest conquest was a 20-0 victory at Chatham on Wednesday, wherein pitcher Courtney Layne tossed a perfect game, striking out all 12 batters she faced. The game ended after four innings due to the high school Mercy Rule.

Appomattox recorded 13 base hits and was aided by six Chatham errors.

Next up for Appomattox is a spring break tournament game at Brookville on Saturday, April 9 at 10 a.m.
