Regional assisted living agency going strong

Central Virginia Alliance on Community Living (CVACL) volunteer operates a handicap-equipped van used in the Dial-A-Rise Transportation program.

The Central Virginia Alliance on Community Living (CVACL) reported that during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020, the Lynchburg-based agency that serves various counties in the Region 2000 area, including Appomattox, was able to remain active and increase its number of supports and services to senior individuals.

The “Meals on Wheels” program, through which deliveries are made throughout each week, was requested by 710 individuals and resulted in more than 90,000 meals in the fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30.

The Emergency Services Response program assisted 425 individuals. The program provides services such as nutrition, medical needs, household items, technology assistance, personal items needed to cope with loneliness, assistance in weather emergencies and more.

The “Take Charge” care transitions intervention program serviced 322 individuals. The program helps high-risk, recently discharged people manage their health conditions, contacts them twice a week and makes safe home visits for medicine management through a health coach.

The “Be a Santa to a Senior” program delivered 389 gifts in December 2020. The program partners with Home Instead Senior Care. Each senior describes what they would like to receive such as slippers, stamps, pajamas, hobby supplies, bed sheets, etc.
