Stacy Purcell, director of the Miss Historic Appomattox Railroad Festival Beauty Pageant, was aglow with excitement as she announced that the beauty pageant is set to make a comeback in 2021.
The date for the 2021 beauty pageant is Sept. 25; registration opens April 1.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the location is yet to be determined.
Contestants do not have to be a resident of Appomattox to participate, noted Purcell.
The beauty pageant is also open to sponsors.
Purcell has expressed that the pageant is a fun way to instill confidence in participants.
Past winners include Claudia Hamlet (2019 Miss Historic Appomattox Railroad Festival) and Summer Dowdy (2018 Miss Historic Appomattox Railroad Festival). There was no 2020 winner due to the Railroad Festival’s cancellation that year.
Traditionally, the pageant winner serves as the grand marshall of the Railroad Festival parade. This year’s Railroad Festival is scheduled for Oct. 9 and Oct. 10.
Another update on the festival — Purcell shared that the teddy bear parade is set to return. She said that more updates will be available soon.
