Exciting times are ahead for Appomattox shoppers (and those from the surrounding areas) — the Appomattox Vintage and Artisans Market is making a comeback in April.
Last year the spring market was canceled due to the pandemic. The cancellation turned into a positive result as the organizer behind the spring market was able to plan for a nine-week fall and Christmas market experience later in 2020.
This year’s spring market is set to focus more on vintage, said Laura Dawson, the woman behind the Appomattox Vintage and Artisans Market.
The spring market’s opening night will commence Friday, April 2, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. From there, the market will run through April 24. Hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market will take place at the old J.E. Sears store front located at 243 Court Street.
For the opening night, there will be an entrance fee of $3. Opening night shopping provides an opportunity for the shopper to have first dibs on the fresh, well-stocked displays. Part of the proceeds from the entrance fee will go to a community project for youth.
After the success of the fall and Christmas market, Dawson’s been focused on seeking out vendors and organizing her spring market. This year, she’s excited about having secured a pottery vendor. There also will be plants and fresh flowers available for purchase, a cookie vendor and kettle corn. Paradise Ice will be coming out on a Saturday — an opportunity for folks to satiate that hankering for an icy treat as the weather warms up. Fresh farm eggs will also be sold at the market.
While the winter and fall markets were geared toward gifts for the holidays, the spring market will focus on items that will refresh the home. Of course, for those who like to plan ahead, such items could make for some great Mother’s Day or birthday gifts, said Dawson.
To keep in line with COVID-19 safety precautions, there will be a limit on the number of people allowed in the building. In addition to the limit, a sanitizing station will be available for use. Face coverings will be worn, and social distancing will take place.
“I’m excited about getting some fresh new vendors in,” said Dawson. “And I always get excited about the vintage stuff that’s gonna be coming in — it’s all very unique.”
She described springtime as a renewal with an opportunity to get in some fun shopping to refresh the home.
“New beginnings,” said Dawson, describing the feelings that come with springtime.
“We’re looking forward to seeing everyone come out to enjoy the spring market,” Dawson added.
