Fleet announces intention to pursue Appomattox County Commonwealth's Attorney position

In lieu of the recent announcement that Appomattox County Commonwealth's Attorney Darrel Puckett will soon begin duties as general district court judge for the 10th District, current Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney Leslie M. "Les" Fleet has declared his intention to run for Puckett's position in November's general election.

Fleet will replace Puckett on an interim basis when he officially begins his judgeship June 1. Fleet will be considered as the incumbent for the commonwealth's attorney position when the election campaign begins.

Fleet has stated that he will run as an Independent on the ballot.

In a prosecution career spanning 19 years, Fleet has been the Appomattox County Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney for the last 14 years.

His public service in the field of law enforcement began as a police officer in the 1980's and progressed as a member of the Virginia State Bar in 1996.

Fleet, who is married with two children, lives in Appomattox County and hopes to continue serving the local jurisdiction.

"I have devoted a large part of my life in service to others and would very much appreciate your support to continue that service as your Commonwealth’s Attorney," Fleet said.
