The Appomattox County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the painting of "KKK" letters on five rural roads in the county.
Sheriff Donald Simpson said today that the office was first notified of the vandalism last Saturday morning, and that the incidents likely happened sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning.
The letters were applied in bright orange spray paint. Simpson said a work order had been sent to VDOT to clean up the graffiti. He said some of the paint was still present on Thursday when he drove through the areas but the clean up process has been underway.
The five roads vandalized were Falling Creek Road, Walkers Ford Road, Bear Branch Road, Oak Ridge Road and Colemans Mill Road. The roads are in the northern part of the county.
Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to call the Appomattox County Sheriff's Office at (434) 352-2666 or the anonymous tip line at (434) 352-3995.
