Jonathan Garrett (right) of the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department receives a check from the Appomattox Lions Club to assist in the purchase of a new fire truck to replace the aging 1990 model currently in service. Garrett remarked that the community has been very supportive in this fundraising effort so far. Recently the Lions Club enjoyed an informative presentation by Clinton Robertson and James Burks III about the fire department’s Swift Water Rescue Team. The capabilities of the unit, the training required and the coordination with surrounding areas were discussed. The Appomattox Lions Club meets on the second Thursday evening of each month at the Railyard Restaurant on Church Street.
