Cloyce Belle Stanley

Cloyce Belle Stanley, 94, passed away on December 9, 2020, and was reunited with her loving husband, Bill, though all who knew them realized they were never truly apart. She was the epitome of the Greatest Generation, and was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Born in Burrton, KS on her grandfather’s farm, and raised in Halstead, KS, she grew up during the Depression, and learned the values of hard work, honesty and charity. Music, church, and family were always a large part of her life. She met the love of her life, Bill, in 1945, at the choral department of Southwestern College in Winfield, KS. Bill was a newly discharged WWII Army Air Corps pilot on the GI bill, and it was love at first sight. They were married for 72 years. She and Bill loved performing choral music together, and they passed this love of music on to their children. Cloyce was a strong, educated, independent woman, who had been a public school music teacher, but chose to dedicate her life to raising her family. Together, she and Bill raised a diversified family with strengths in art, science, music, and medicine. Cloyce was active in many volunteer groups, including Habitat for Humanity, hospitals , churches, PEO, and varied musical groups. Life took them to Winfield and Manhattan, KS; Munster, Seymour, and Ogden Dunes, IN; Wheaton and Aurora, IL; Kerrville, TX; Aiken, SC; Virginia Beach and Richmond, VA. Cloyce was a member of many churches, most recently the 1st Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach.

Cloyce is predeceased by her parents, Clancy and Mina Brown, and brothers Grover and Bill Brown. She is survived by a sister Joyce Gassert (Lee), of Chatsworth, CA, daughter Terry Murphy (Ken) of Richmond, VA, sons Randy of Ashland, VA, Scott (Marianne) of Virginia Beach, VA, Rod (Jane) of Appomattox, VA, Bill of Woodward, OK, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
