Paulette wins teen popularity poll
There was fun and excitement for six pretty misses of Evergreen at the Halloween Party. Arlene Paulette was the Teenage Popularity Contest. Also participating in the contest were Joette Paulette, Bonnie Faye Paulette, Brenda Grishaw, Barbara Kay Staples and Juanita Martin.

Walton receives award from VA Tech
Lloyd G. Walton, retired superintendent of Appomattox County Public Schools, was awarded a Distinguished Alumnus Award by the College of Education at Virginia Tech. The award recognizes people who have graduated from one of the various College of Education programs.
Governor bans outdoor fires
Gov. L. Douglas Wilder banned all outdoor burning in Virginia. The decree followed two months of below-normal rainfall and a series of forest fires in the western part of Virginia and West Virginia.
