As the Page Turns

We say goodbye to August and hello to September with a curtsy. Last week the Ladies (and gentlemen) of the Library attended a renaissance faire hosted by Wolfbane Productions on Saturday August 24th. Wolfbane productions is a performing arts and community enrichment organization that focuses on bringing theatre, education, and outreach programs to the area. This annual Wolfswood Faire brings a huge crowd from around the state to this medieval style celebration offering patrons of the arts the opportunity to mingle with actors, participate in challenges, enjoy the festivities and shop for unique items. The library was on had to promote library services and give away handmade fairy wands (aka ribbon dancers), crowns, and craft projects while being surrounded by bubbles. Bubbles are so much fun we even gave some away!

September comes from the Latin word septem "seven" because this was the seventh month of the early Roman calendar. September’s birthstone is the sapphire and the flower is the aster. Some of the observances and holidays in September are: All-American Breakfast Month, Library Card Sign-up Month, National Bake & Decorate Month, National Save A Tiger Month, Update Your Resume Month, Popcorn Days: 5-7, Banned Books Week: 22-28, Tolkien Week: 22-28, Pet Rock Day: 1, National Day of Service and Remembrance: 11, Read An Ebook Day: 18, Talk Like A Pirate Day: 19, Elephant Appreciation Day: 22, National Ghost Hunting Day: 28, and National Coffee Day: 29, just to name a few.

Help the library celebrate Smokey Bear’s 80th birthday by joining our reading challenge that launched on Tuesday, September 3rd. How does it work? You can sign up in person at the front desk up through Tuesday September 24th.
