I am just now returning from a personal trip to Europe that put me out of touch with happenings in Appomattox for several days, so, if I have missed out on something, I ask for your indulgence until I get back in the swing of things.
This column will not be a travelogue of my trip, but I will use it to relay some impressions and observations about commercially oriented items in southern Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic where I visited.
The first item of interest is the price of regular gasoline. In the city of Munich and the rest of Bavaria, the price calculated roughly to $7.40 per gallon. There are fewer taxes applied over the border in Austria, so the cost was approximately $6.08. In the Czech Republic, the cost was a mere $4.70 per gallon, but, since the average monthly wage is little more than $1,000, it is quite expensive for them.
