I’d been wanting to go to Sandy River for some time now to get some fishing in. I get a phone call from Frankie McCormick of Appomattox. We get to talking and the next thing I know we are talking about crappie fishing. That got my blood pumped up. During the spring months I heard a lot of talk that the fishermen had been tearing up the crappie; in other words the crappie were biting really good. We made plans to go Thursday morning and I was to meet Frankie at the Farmers Bank parking lot at 7 a.m.

The next morning I went out to the shed and backed up my pickup truck to it. I grabbed two poles and set them in the back of the pickup. I needed to make some more “new lures.” I didn’t want to go to Sandy and be short on lures. I thought I had a new bottle of Loc Tight but I didn’t after looking all over the place. I made a quick run to the store and got one. I made up six new lures to take with me. My theory is if the crappie ain’t hitting these lures then they just ain’t hungry.
