Gary’s Corner: DWI

Every Saturday afternoon in the summer, it’s fast pitch softball as I play with the Blue Jays as a catcher. Today we are playing a cross team rival, Red’s Garage; our record is tied and this is a blood match.

It’s the last game of the season and my boys are pumped. During the past few games they have worked hard as a team and have come together as a unit. After two innings we are tied at two all. We change pitchers and he throws faster and to the inside so they have trouble connecting. It’s the bottom of the ninth, tied at six each.

We are the home team. The base are loaded, and no outs. It’s a high hit deep ball down the first base line. It’s caught as the third base runner makes a dash for home and slides in ahead of the catcher receiving the ball. We have won the game!
