Spring is just around the corner, and the library is doing its own version of spring cleaning.
We are working on re-cataloging the movie collection. This may take several weeks and we want to apologize, in advance, for any inconvenience this may cause our patrons. We will be evaluating our selection, shifting cases and adding new items. Some titles may be temporarily unavailable as we progress forward but we wish to assure you that we are working as quickly as possible.
We would like to remind patrons that Daylight Saving Time starts on Sunday, March 14, this year. Don’t forget to “spring” ahead by turning your clocks up one hour.
With the weather taking a turn for the better, it is the perfect time to take a family adventure and explore a Virginia State Park with a Discovery Backpack. What is a Discovery Backpack? It is a checkout-able backpack that opens up the great outdoors by providing you with tools and educational materials to help you enjoy any Virginia State Park. Included in the backpack is a Virginia State Parks Parking Pass that allows the pass holder free entry into all Virginia State Parks.
The Library of Virginia has partnered with Virgina State Parks and the Science Museum of Virginia to provide libraries across the state with Discovery Backpacks.
You must be 18 years of age or older to checkout one of the two backpacks the Jamerson Library has. You must sign a user agreement accepting the responsibility/agreement to return all items in clean and good working order. Backpacks check out for seven days and must be returned in person to the library’s circulation desk. Question your world and discover the wonders that nature has to offer at a Virginia State Park.
Due to the current state-wide mandates, the library has a limited number of computers for public use. We allow patrons a 30-minute session, and if no one is waiting you may stay longer. If we have patrons waiting to use these services the patron/patrons that have been on the longest will be asked to allow the next person in line to have a turn.
To help ease the need for this service there are two Wi-Fi options. Our internal Wi-Fi with daily password changes allows patrons to connect to our wireless printers during normal business hours. Our second option is our 24-hour external Wi-Fi called JRJML-free, with the password jamerson (all lowercase letters), which allows patrons to connect in the park, and parking lot, depending upon your device, but has no access to the wireless printers.
The Appomattox County Library Association (ACLA) will be hosting two spring fundraisers. A spring raffle will start Monday, March 15, and run through Thursday, April 15. A week long mini book sale will be held from Monday, March 22, through Saturday, March 27. Proceeds from both fund raisers will benefit the library for the 2021 Summer Reading Program “Tails and Tales” as well as other educational events.
If you have questions about this article or other library related matters please feel free to call us, during normal business hours at 434-352-5340.
