The Virginia State Police has confirmed the identity of two males who were killed in an automobile accident Friday afternoon in Appomattox County. 

The driver, Brian L. Moore, 50, of Rustburg, was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital where, on May 8, he succumbed to his injuries. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

The passenger, Randy S. Petty, 31, of Lynchburg, died at the scene. He was also not wearing a seatbelt.

The two males were traveling south in a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe when it ran off the right side of the road, struck a tree, continued down an embankment and struck a second tree.

The crash remains under investigation.

It has been confirmed by authorities who were at the scene of a one-vehicle crash in Appomattox County earlier today that one man died as a result of the accident and another is in critical condition. 

At approximately 4:30 p.m. a vehicle crashed into a ditch at the 6000 block of Oakville Road. Two males were trapped inside the vehicle and emergency crews proceeded with an extraction process. 

One male was pronounced dead at the scene. The other male was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital. 

The cause of the accident is under investigation. No other individuals were inside the vehicle. 

Assisting at the scene were the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department, Appomattox County Rescue Squad, Delta Response Team Advance Life Support, Appomattox County Sheriff's Office, Virginia State Police, VDOT, and others.
