Appomattox County High School will be represented by three of its athletic teams Saturday in the VHSL Region 2C Championships after tonight's quarterfinal games were completed. Trips to the VHSL Class 2 State Championship playoffs are at stake Saturday.

The Raiders softball team scored eight runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to a 14-1 win over Alleghany.

The Raiders boys soccer team won a 2-0 upset on the road over higher seeded Nelson County.

The Raiders baseball team also won as road underdogs, edging Floyd County 9-8.

The Raiders girls soccer team, which valiantly exceeded the expectations of many observers this season, came ever so close to making it a perfect four-of-four for Appomattox. The Raider girls held a 2-0 lead over Glenvar but the Highlanders scored two goals within the last seven minutes to force overtime. Neither team scored in four five-minute overtime periods, so the game went into the penalty kick phase, which Glenvar won 3-1.

Saturday's Region 2C Championships schedule:

Softball: Glenvar (No. 2 seed) at Appomattox (No. 1 seed). Game time 2 p.m.

Baseball: Appomattox (No. 7 seed) at Chatham (No. 1 seed). Game time 6 p.m.

Boys soccer: Appomattox (No. 3 seed) at Glenvar (No. 1 seed). Game time 7 p.m.
