The news has been filled with people struggling to get the vaccine and not being to find any available.
In Appomattox County, we have been blessed to have two large vaccination clinics which have assisted those over 65.
I heard about the clinic on Feb. 10 and made a phone call to receive an appointment. The next day, I was prepared for a lengthy wait but was pleased to witness the efficiency of the vaccination of 300 county older citizens.
The registration, administration of the vaccine and area to wait for 15 minutes were all well organized, and I was in and out in a short amount of time.
This past Wednesday, I went for my second shot, and they not only gave 300 second shots but also administered 385 first doses. Wow!
I would like to commend the following people for their hard work ahead of time in the planning, which led to a very efficient day for vaccinations.
• Dr. Annette Bennett and school staff and teachers were assisting in the registration and keeping the flow of people smooth. Also, they provided the high school cafeteria as the site.
• Susan Walton and the Appomattox Volunteer Rescue Squad and her EMS crew who were in charge of administering the vaccine. All were very professional and efficient.
• Bobby Wingfield and the Appomattox County Emergency Services for the hours of work ahead of the day and assistance on the day of vaccination.
All of you deserve a round of applause.
I do realize other pharmacies and doctors are assisting others in the vaccine — this was just my experience. Thank you all who are making sure we all stay safe.
