Raiders volleyball perfect at 9-0, final two road games canceled

Appomattox County High School Athletic Director Chris Dodge announced that the final two regular season road games for the undefeated (9-0) Raiders volleyball team are canceled.

The Raiders were set to travel tonight to Gretna, but the Hawks are currently under COVID-19 quarantine.

Likewise, the April 8 match at Chatham is canceled because the Cavaliers are under quarantine until April 11.

Neither of those games will be made up.

As of today, the final Raiders regular season home match vs. Dan River is still scheduled for Tuesday, April 6.

The Raiders hosted the Altavista Colonels on Tuesday, March 30, in a rematch with their opening night opponent. Appomattox won the first meeting 3-0 on March 4 at Altavista’s home court.

The outcome would be the same in the second meeting, with Appomattox taking all three sets (25-15, 25-23, 25-14).

Kaydence Gilbert led the Raiders with 14 kills and two blocked shots.

Madison Shirey was second with seven kills, followed by Haleigh Tweedy’s five.

As usual, Cameron Womack was the Raiders’ shot setter and assist leader with 27.

Abbey Mann led the defense with 12 digs.
