The Appomattox Town Council voted at its Nov. 23 workshop meeting to replace the flagpole and signage in front of the municipal office.
Director of Public Works Jeff Elder pitched the idea, which included two new poles, one for the United States flag and one for the Commonwealth of Virginia flag. They are 35-foot-tall aluminum flag poles.
“They look really nice,” he commented. “The company’s been really good about holding the price for us.”
He said that he could add the floodlights himself, and that doing it in-house would get it done more cheaply. Eventually he wants to add landscaping around the poles. The flag will measure 6-feet-by-10-feet in size.
