On Wednesday, Dec. 8, the Appomattox Raiders girls varsity basketball team got off to a 3-0 lead against the visiting Cumberland Dukes but ultimately fell to the Dukes by a score of 43-30.
Although the Raiders significantly improved their offensive output from their prior home game against Amherst in which they score just nine points, a bevy of offensive turnovers against Cumberland kept Appomattox from remaining in contention for a possible win.
Addie Nolen, who led Appomattox with 15 points on the night, put up the first three on a pull-up jump shot after her own steal, and later sunk a free throw for a 3-0 lead.
