Drinkard misses U.S. Women's Amateur qualifying by four strokes

Former Appomattox County High School golf champion and all-state performer Jillian Drinkard fell just four strokes off the mark in a qualifying event for the 2021 U.S. Women's Amateur tournament. 

Drinkard's score of 76 was short of the qualifying scores of par 72 held by five participants in an event held July 7 at Carolina Trace Country Club in Sanford, N.C.

As listed on carolinasgolf.org, the six qualifiers are as follows: 

Caroline Craig, of Georgia (-3, 69)

Katherine Schuster, of North Carolina (E, 72)

Anna Morgan, of South Carolina (E, 72)

Emma Schimpf, of South Carolina (E, 72)

Emily Hawkins, of North Carolina (E, 72)

Riley Hamilton, of North Carolina (E, 72) 

Drinkard's women's college golf team at Methodist University in North Carolina recently won the 2021 Division III Championship, and Drinkard was awarded the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division III Player of the Year
