Amazement Square to receive Red Cross award

Amazement Square’s Fiscal Officer, Aileen Hull, donates blood.

Amazement Square is to be honored with the Red Cross Biomedical Hero Award during a virtual ceremony today.

“The American Red Cross is delighted to honor Amazement Square for playing such an important role in our mission to supply lifesaving blood to our local hospitals and beyond. Community partnerships like this are invaluable not only to the Red Cross, but to the entire community.” said Michelle Dowdy, American Red Cross Executive Director, Blue Ridge.

Each year the Red Cross honors heroes in the community that usually fall under emergency response, but this year their board wanted to recognize organizations that helped the Red Cross continue its’ mission during the pandemic. There was an outpouring of community support, but they are recognizing the exceptional under each line of service: Biomedical, Service to Armed Forces, and Disaster.

Amazement Square was nominated and recognized for their commitment to the community and helping the Red Cross keep blood donations going as so many donation centers were closed due to the pandemic.

“Throughout its 20-year history, Amazement Square has always been dedicated to supporting our community, not only through accessible educational enrichment programming but by being a partner and a resource for other cultural institutions across the nation,” said Mort Sajadian, CEO & President at Amazement Square. “We are incredibly thankful to have been both nominated and selected as the recipient for this prestigious award and we look forward to continuing this partnership.”
