Some new additions to the Railroad Festival are underway this year — one of them being the addition of the first-ever Railroad Festival Storefront Decorating Contest.

As a committee member, Kia Scott is overseeing the first-ever contest of its kind for the festival. For the committee, the addition of the contest carries the potential for drawing visitors and an opportunity for storefronts to help ramp up the festival excitement.

Earlier discussion, among committee members, about a potential contest, was inspired by some of the window contests seen in other localities around the nation. So why not do something similar to celebrate the Railroad Festival?

Scott said she envisions local citizens and folks visiting from out of town pausing to enjoy the store-front displays. She hopes to see the contest generate excitement in town and encourage foot traffic.
