Fall has officially arrived, the equinox was Sept. 22, and October is just around the corner. October comes from the Latin word octo, “eight,” because it was the eighth month of the early Roman calendar.
October is: Adopt A Shelter Dog Month, Fair Trade Month, LGBT History Month, National Arts & Humanities Month, Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 3-9), Great Books Week (Oct. 3-9), Teen Read Week (Oct. 10-16), International Coffee Day (Oct. 1), National Pumpkin Seed Day (Oct. 6), National Fossil Day (Oct. 13), Black Poetry Day (Oct. 17), National Chocolate Day (Oct. 28), National Candy Corn Day (Oct. 30), and Halloween or All Hallows Eve (Oct. 31) just to name a few.
October is also National Cookbook Month. A perfect way to celebrate would be to come into the library, check out our selection and try making a new dish, a family favorite, some holiday cookies and cakes, or a good chili for these cooler nights.
