New minister at Liberty Baptist
The Rev. O. Daulton Moore accepted a call to the pastorate of the local Liberty Baptist Church, succeeding the Rev. James Cravens. He comes to Appomattox from First Baptist Church in Groveland, Fla., and is a native of Caswell County, N.C. He has served pastorates in North Carolina, Indiana and Florida.

Scouts help with church renovation project
Boy Scouts Troop 546 got busy scraping old paint and doing other chores at the old Wesley Chapel Church, which was moved from its original site just off Route 727 to its present location adjacent to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. The old church got an overhaul in readiness for an Open House by the Appomattox Historical Society.

Girl scouts get money back
Money that was inappropriately taken from a local girl scout troop by a former troop leader was returned. The current scout leaders planned a trip for the 14 county girls who had missed a planned summer visit to Kings Dominion because of the theft.
Transco donates to building project
Transco made a $5,000 donation to the local Habitat for Humanity chapter and planned a work day for its employees on one of the local organization’s building projects.
