Horses 101

Some horses are naturally kind of relaxed and unbothered by life and all that it entails. Other horses get excited over just about everything. They can’t help it, that’s just how they are. A 1,200 pound animal can be quite a handful, even dangerous to a person at the end of the lead rope or in the saddle if that person doesn’t have much experience.

Let’s think over a few things we can do to help a nervous horse calm down. First thing you need to believe is that a horse doesn’t want to be wound up. When he is wound up, he is thinking about his survival. He wants to feel calm and safe, and it’s up to the rider to do everything she can to help him feel that way.
