The Defending State Champion Appomattox Raiders football team got off to an uncharacteristically slow start on Friday night in the opening round of VHSL Region 2C playoffs. But by the second half, they had regained their groove and finished off Dogwood District rivals, the Gretna Hawks, 40-14.

No. 2 Appomattox (9-1) hosts No. 3 Radford (8-3) this Friday at Appomattox County High School. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
