UPDATE: Two people were injured in the one-vehicle crash that occurred early this afternoon in the vicinity of 3319 Promised Land Road in Appomattox County.
Around 1 p.m. a red 2003 Ford Mustang crashed into a utility pole while traveling in the southbound lane and flipped over onto its rooftop. The impact snapped the pole near the bottom and sent it crashing onto the road. The Mustang ended up in the front yard of a residential property.
Virginia State Police identified the driver as 35-year-old Jason Klein of Brookneal. The passenger was a minor. No other individuals were in the vehicle.
Klein and the passenger were both transported to Lynchburg General Hospital in separate Appomattox Rescue Squad ambulances. A Virginia State Police trooper at the scene described the injuries as serious, but the nature of the injuries were unspecified.
Two power lines were frayed but had not severed at the time of the accident. Fire crews kept an eye on the power lines until utility workers arrived.
Klein was charged with failure to maintain control on a wet road.
Also assisting at the crash site were Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department Engines 1 and 3, and Crash 9, and the Appomattox County Sheriff's Department.
