Flora Jean Beam, 96, of Appomattox, VA died on Friday, December 24, 2021, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Madeleine McCaughin. She graduated valedictorian of Ursinus College in 1947. She enjoyed traveling, reading, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and other crafts. She was married to Merlin A. Beam for over 69 years, and he predeceased her on Wednesday, April 5, 2017, in Lynchburg, VA. Merlin A. Beam, 99, was the son of the late William and Alma Beam. Merlin was a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy and retired as a pharmacist. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in North Africa and Italy during WWII. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, and reading. They are survived by son, Dr. Thomas (Nancy) Beam of Silver Spring, MD; daughter, Lindajean Giraudin of Katy, TX; daughter, Margaret “Margie” (John) Durbin of Phenix, VA; 9 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. As per Flora Jean’s and Merlin’s request, there will be a private joint memorial service held atChrist Church, Cornerstone Christian Academy.Inlieu of flowers, contributions may be made in their name to the charity of one’s choice.
