On Friday and Saturday, the Appomattox Raiders wrestling team participated in the VHSL Class 2 State Championships held at the Salem Civic Center. Teams from Class 1 and 3 were also competing for their class-specific awards.
The Raiders finished 12th overall in Class 2 team scoring, out of 31 schools, with 43 points accumulated. The winner was Strasburg with 218 points. Runner-up was Poquoson at 150.
Five wrestlers represented Appomattox County High School in the event, with two placing fifth and one placing sixth in their respective weight divisions.
C.J. Jones, who a week prior had won the regional championship in the heavyweight 285-pound division, placed fifth in the state finals, earning 13 team points.
